Areys Pond Boatyard’s Custom Boats Caracal 19
I met several members of the Davis family at the Newport, RI boat show when I went to take a look at their 19’ Caracal cat boat that won Best Product for New Boaters/Accessibility. The winning boat was built from fiberglass but many of their boats are cold molded. These boats are customizable, and the owner of this boat is 6’4” so he chose a wishbone boom rig so he could easily move about the boat and not worry about getting boomed. He also opted for an open sailing boat (no cabin) but this same model can accommodate a small cabin.
I have learned to appreciate cat boats as my brother Jim has a 14’ cat boat from another builder, and its wide beam and shallow draft allowed us to once comfortably sail her with six adults and three dogs on board.
