Coastal Craft 54Lux

Canadian boat builder Coastal Craft started out building rugged offshore capable cruisers primarily for serious fishermen, which remain excellent boats. They now offer the same quality of finely finished aluminum boats in their stylish outboard and IPS powered “Expressfish” series. The new Coastal Craft 54Lux takes this trend to the next level with head turning beauty featuring an axe bow that got everyone talking at the show. I mean part of this show is still Trawlerfest, and measuring the Coastal Craft 54Lux against a traditional trawler is like comparing a spaceship to an old biplane crop duster. Let’s just say that anyone that made it out to the end of the dock where the new Coastal Craft was tied up noticed her.

Coastal Craft 54Lux

The 54Lux is exquisitely finished with nary a weld to be seen and sports a two-tone metallic paint job contrasted by brilliant orange exterior upholstery and a matching orange boot stripe. I normally wouldn’t be fond of these colors nor the decidedly ultra-modern look of this boat, but I can’t help liking it. It is just so striking and in a way that says this boat is fast and sexy even when she is sitting at the dock.

Accommodations, I mean who really cares right? But she is well appointed with a queen master forward, a head, and even a separate private guest cabin aft. There is a well-appointed galley, a sizeable dinette, under a large opening sunroof. Exterior seating and sunpads forward and aft model themselves even without humans adorning them. Below the aft sunpad is an electrically actuated boat garage designed to stow a Williams jet tender 285. The cockpit can be sheltered by a retractable SureShade and features black Corian tables for cocktailing, al fresco dining, and entertaining.

Powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS 950s (D11-725HP) the Coastal Craft is meant to be fast and nimble. The hull running surface and structural engineering was created by DLBA Naval Architects which combined the strength, balance, speed, and performance needed to handle high-speeds comfortably and safely. Top speed is reportedly 38 knots and the boat can cruise at 30 knots even when 80% loaded. Helm visibility is excellent with a wide unencumbered raked windshield forward and more windows all around.

I tend to be a traditionalist when it comes to boats but not this time. The Coastal Craft 54Lux really gets my heart thumping. There is something about this shiny metal beauty that makes me want to jump in and push the throttles down. I hope to get on board this summer and do just that to see what she is really made of. If you are looking for a boat that will catch people’s eye and draw envy wherever you go, the new Coastal Craft 54Lux should be on your list. She is sure to turn heads with whiplash like speeds.
