eW Dometic DG3 gyro stabilizer
Gyroscopic stabilizers have become very popular over the last few years, with Seakeeper leading the pack. Other manufacturers are building their gyros similar to the newly released Dometic DG3. Dometic engineers spent years developing the DG3 because they didn’t want to make just another gyro-they wanted to make a better gyro.

The Dometic DG3 has a faster up and down time than other systems. The unit can reach operational status in just 16 minutes and come to a complete stop in just 20 minutes. Dometic’s proprietary fully electric actuator does not use hydraulics, which is intended to make the gyro system more reliable, enhance long-term durability, and minimize required service to reduce overall ownership cost over the product’s lifetime. The DG3 uses energy storage and recapture technology, which means the system uses less power. Dometic claims that DG3 reduces power consumption by an impressive 40% compared to other solutions. A slower-spinning flywheel, large, robust bearings, patent-pending inner race and parallel path cooling, and a titanium heat exchanger help with cooling and increase reliability.
The DG3 is designed for OEM installation and as a replacement for other systems or retrofitting onto existing vessels. The DG3 is versatile and compatible with 12-, 24-, and 48-volt house battery systems.
Seeing how the new Dometic DG3 works in action will be interesting. I hope to get aboard a boat for a demo ride soon.
