New Series 5 Fliteboard Efoil

Efoils are a fun new way to get on the water. These self-powered boards lift you above the water, leaving the hydrofoil and jet drive powering the board below the surface. Founded in Australia and now owned by Brunswick, Flite just released their new Series 5 Fliteboard at the Miami International Boat Show. The Series 5 Fliteboard uses a new advanced jet propulsion system developed in collaboration with Mercury Marine and engineered to make the ride smoother, quieter, and safer.

While I wasn’t able to test the Series 5 Fliteboard in the water, I was able to get on the simulator and give it a try. Standing on a board in the Miami Beach Convention Center with the throttle controller in my hand, the simulator took me to an area with an orange-red rock formation looming above the water. I got up to speed and maneuvered around some anchored boats, narrowly missing one, but soon got the hang of it. I was able to zoom around the simulated waterways without crashing. I’m not sure if it is as easy as this on the water, but I certainly would like to give it a try.

The Series 5 Fliteboard uses rechargeable batteries to power the innovative new jet that drives the Efoil. It comes in several colors, including limited-edition clay, which is a subtle yellow. Series 5 Fliteboard prices range from $7,395 to $18,995 (USD), depending on the model.
