Hinckley Yachts Picnic Boat 39

The Hinckley Yachts Picnic Boat 39 won both best new powerboat under 45’ and the best new boat of the show at her debut in Newport. This venerable Maine builder known for combining excellent craftsmanship, high end materials, and timeless design to produce vessels that stretch the gap between nautical art and modern function hit the mark with this updated picnic boat. Timed as a 30thanniversary re-release of their iconic 36’ Picnic Boat, the new 39 features an open bow with additional seating. According to Hinckley VP of sales and marketing Scott Bryant, who I caught up with at the show, many owners had expressed the desire for additional gathering areas both for underway seating and when entertaining. This new Picnic Boat certainly delivers, with comfortable seating both fore and aft in addition to the below decks berth and private head.
Like the original Picnic Boat, the new 39 is jet driven for easy maneuvering under joystick control (JetStick 4). Other benefits to the two Hamilton HJX27 waterjets are a shallow draft (2’2”) and a lack of props and appendages that can get tangled in the myriad of lobster pots found in Maine’s coastal waters. Powered by twin 480HP Volvo D6s the Hinckley can cruise at 34knots with a top speed a few knots faster.
