Lagoon 38 Catamaran

Lagoon 38

The Lagoon 38 won Best New Sailboat in Newport this year. This sailing catamaran features an innovative new hull that has a narrow forefoot with a substantial chime above it. This is designed to maximize interior volume without hurting the sailing ability of the boat. I can’t vouch for the sailability, but the volume seemed larger than other cats in this category to me. As a reality check I brought my brother and sister-in-law aboard as they recently cruised the Bahamas aboard a similarly sized Leopard 39. They agreed that the cabins were noticeably larger than the boat they had just sailed on. There are twin double cabins that share a head in one hull and a master suite with its own large head in the other.

The layout of the Lagoon 38 is also really nice as the back doors slide completely open, connecting the salon to the cockpit. With both an inside and outside table you can either have separate dining, or a huge table that can seat perhaps a dozen people if you all got close. The galley layout with fridges, freezers, the stove, and cooktop to starboard, and a large counter forward with a centerline sink opens the salon up for both meal prep and when entertaining. The finish is professional although more Euro-Chik than nautical which suits this modern cat.
