Maxim 44R a Stylish Spanish beauty

Maxium 44 R

I have to admit that I almost did not notice the new Maxim 44R at the Miami show as it was wedged in between other boats. Once the boat caught my eye and I saw Maxim Yachts, I wondered if someone had resurrected the “Maxum” brand. I soon realized that this plum bow runabout was not a stylish American makeover but a true Spanish lady. Unbeknownst to me, Maxim has been building boats in Barcelona, Spain since 1971 but the Maxim 44R was the first one I encountered.

Designed as a fast day cruiser, the manufacturer claims a top speed of 51 knots with standard triple Mercury 300-HP 4.6L V8 Verados. Triple 450-horsepower Yamahas will be an option for those wanting more speed out of the 44’ long by 12’2” wide double chined hull. It will be interesting to see what top speed and performance bigger engines deliver.

The open deck layout features teak clad decks and a carbon fiber steering console with seating for four and twin Garmin MFDs beneath a curved black hard top. Behind the helm seating, an outdoor galley is equipped with a cooktop, a sink, and two large refrigerators, with the option for more and an ice maker. Two foldable tables, seating, and a convertible sunpad can accommodate up to ten people. A removeable awning can protect this open area when desired. Sixteen cup holders, a JL audio system with eight speakers, and additional seating forward will keep the party going. The bow lounge can be converted to a sunpad too. Below deck, there is a head with shower and two double cabins, one of which can be converted into a lounge.

The Max 44R screams fun and if you opt for the larger engines to hit speeds over 50 knots it is sure to be a thrill ride. This new boat from Spain is sexy and stylish and will no doubt have people asking about this foreign beauty everywhere you go. I would like to test out that 50-knot speed and see how the Maxim 44R handles and hope to do so soon.
