New Whalers in the Fleet – Boston Whalers 330 and 290 Outrage

I watched as Boston Whaler (a Brunswick company) unveiled two new center console models at the Miami International Boat Show, the 330 Outrage and 290 Outrage. They pulled the curtains back on the first day, allowing the crowd to get a peek at these newly retooled Whalers. One of the interesting parts was getting a look at the hulls, which are both double stepped, a first for Whaler. They have been working for years on this WhalerStep™ technology, incorporating prominent steps amidships to provide a smooth ride and better performance and fuel economy. Like all Whalers, the new boats are built with their legendary unsinkable Unibond® construction, in which the hull and liner are foam-filled to provide buoyancy, reduced noise, and enhance puncture resistance. I can’t wait to actually test-drive one of these new hulls.
With twin Mercury 425 V10 Verados, manufacturer performance testing showed the Boston Whaler 330 Outrage got onto plane in 6.3 seconds, went Idle to 30 miles per hour (mph) in 9.3 seconds, and achieved a top speed of 60.9 mph. Cruising at 4500 rpm, the 330 Outrage ran at 40.9 mph using 30.2 gallons per hour 1.18 mpg and had a calculated range of 366 miles. Looking at these numbers, it seems their R&D on this new hullform appears to be paying off.
Walking through the vessel, I could see that the 330 Outrage has the quality fit and finish that Boston Whaler is known for. The center console layout and multiple features like folding seats allow the boat to be fished but also used for watersports, diving, or just for exploring or day cruising.
Boston Whaler 330 Outrage MSRP “Starting at”: $473,135
