Outer Reef 780 Adventure launched and loaded

The May 2025 launch of the new Outer Reef 780 Adventure marks a milestone for this builder that is intended to send a ripple that will be noticed by boaters everywhere. Outer Reef has been building high-quality composite motor yachts for over 25 years. They are known for combining innovative designs and robust fiberglass construction to deliver comfortable well-appointed motor-yachts from 60’ to 100’. The new Outer Reef 780 Adventure stands out from their venerable pack for several reasons. The vessel is constructed of steel not fiberglass and is built at the highly respected Dutch shipyard known as Lynx Yachts. Outer Reef announced in September 2024 a merger with Lynx which under the new alliance now operates as Outer Reef Yachts – Netherlands. Not only does this provide Outer Reef with famous Dutch craftsmanship but strengthens their presence in Europe and throughout the boating world. The recently launched Outer Reef 780 is the first in a series of steel hulled cruisers coming out of the new yard that range from 78’ (24meters) up to 140’ (43meters).
Jeff Druek, CEO of Outer Reef Yachts stated, “Expanding our presence in the Netherlands and integrating the highly regarded Lynx Yachts management team into our operations marks a significant milestone for Outer Reef Yachts. This partnership aligns perfectly with our commitment to innovation and quality, enabling us to meet the growing demand for adventure yachting across Europe, the United States, Australia, and beyond.”

Launched in May 2025 and built to CE Category “A” for unrestricted ocean navigation standards, the Outer Reef 780 Adventure is meant for long range cruising including ocean crossing capabilities. The fast displacement steel hull is driven by twin Cummins 425 HP QSB 6.7 engines. She is designed to have a range of up to 3,000 nautical miles at 7 knots with 3,962 US gallons (15,000 liters) fuel capacity. The 780 Adventure is reportedly capable of fast cruising at 11 knots and a top speed over 12 knots depending on loading and conditions. Engine upgrades can push theoretical top speeds to 18 knots. For those even more adventuresome the vessel can be built with an ice rating as an option.
While the Netherlands is known for building ship-like robustly constructed steel vessels, the country’s rich heritage in boatbuilding also delivers impeccable highly refined yacht interiors with exotic materials and both nautical and contemporary themes. The Outer Reef 780 Adventure with her 22’2” beam has plenty of room for rich spacious accommodations that can be customized to meet individual owner’s needs. Typical layouts include a generous owner’s cabin, VIP and twin guest staterooms, multiple ensuite heads, and crew quarters with two double cabins. The expansive sky lounge offers comfortable seating, outdoor dining, an aft facing sunpad lounge, a wet bar, and a forward fully equipped helm station.

Additional features include a 2,200 lbs. (1,000 kg) crane davit on the foredeck with storage for tenders and water toys. Electric Sleipner (Side Power) vector fin stabilizers are ideal for both in-motion and zero-speed stabilization.
The recent launch of the Outer Reef 780 Adventure made a big splash, with their new wave of steel construction and global cruising capabilities. Hull #1 will cruise to the South of France on her maiden voyage where she can be viewed by appointment for qualified interested parties.
We at Best4Boats look forward to experiencing all that this new generation of Dutch-built, steel Outer Reef yachts has to offer as part of a more comprehensive review sometime soon. Stay tuned.
Jeff Druek, CEO of Outer Reef Yachts stated, “We’ve seen a growing interest in adventure yachting, particularly among a younger generation of cruisers eager to explore remote and extraordinary destinations. Outer Reef owners have already embarked on remarkable journeys to places like Alaska, the Great Barrier Reef, the Galapagos Islands, Patagonia, Greenland, Iceland, and multiple passages around Cape Horn, the southernmost tip of Tierra del Fuego in Chile. This shift highlights a desire for unique, transformative experiences, and Outer Reef is committed to leading the way in these exciting new developments.”
