RIBS are not just tenders, the new Highfield ADV 9

Highfield ADV 9

Rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) are one of the fastest growing boat segments globally. They are easy to operate, and the inflatable sides are much more forgiving for new operators preventing damage. They have built-in buoyancy for safety, and are lightweight, which helps when trailering, but most of all they are fast and fun to drive. Highfield, which is one of the largest builders of inflatables with factories around the world, recently launched the new Highfield ADV 9. The boat is so new it nearly missed the Miami Boat Show. In fact, it never made it inside the convention center where the main Highfield display was but sat prominently on a trailer outside.

I had a chance to walk through the Highfield ADV 9 and it helped me understand the concept. The ADV stands for adventure and as I walked around her decks I can see how this boat would be ideal for cruising and exploring. With twin 300 horsepower Mercury outboards, Highfield says you can top 50 mph and that speed should help get you to your destination. The ADV 9 has fold down lounge seating aft which can be set up around an adjustable height table. This same cockpit area can also be opened wide for fishing, diving, or watersports. There are three bolstered helm seats under the hardtop, a sunpad forward, and even a cozy cabin with a head. The inflatable sides don’t take away from the sporty look and provide buoyancy/safety. My first impression was that new Highfield ADV 9 is no dinghy. This is a boat meant to explore, and getting aboard even on her trailer behind the show made me want to take her for a run in some exotic location.
