Superhuman Vision – FLIR M460 and M560 stabilized thermal imaging/visible camera

The demonstration I saw of the new M460 LRF Elite Multi-Spectral Marine camera system was pretty amazing. FLIR had the camera mounted on a movable platform to showcase the capabilities of the three-axis stabilized gimbal housing. I gave the platform a jolt while watching the screen and the image remained level and steady.

This 14”x21” camera includes a long wave infrared thermal camera, a 4K ultra-low-light visible camera, and a laser rangefinder (LRF version), and spotlight all in one housing. Not only does this allow you to see and track thermal images as well as see images with the day/night camera including the ability to zoom but the entire system is fully stabilized.

FLIR also has a 560 series version of this same 3-axis gyro stabilized multi spectral camera that is cryogenically cooled. The M460 has an uncooled Longwave IR (LWIR) detector and the M560 has a cooled Midwave IR (MWIR) detector. The cooled detector of the 560 delivers superior image quality, enhanced detection capabilities on the water, and better range. The M560 can detect a small vessel at 8.3nm vs 4.9nm for the uncooled M460.

Both cameras have an option for an ITAR free Laser Rangefinder (LRF) that has a range up to 6.5nm. The LRF accurately measures the distance and bearing to a target.

A common add to both of these cameras is a Joystick Control Unit (JCU4) which has an MSRP of $1,799.99

M460 Stabilized Thermal/Visible Camera system, 30 Hz, uncooled LWIR sensor (640 X 512 thermal resolution) with LRF MSRP: $149,999.00

M560 Stabilized Thermal/Visible Camera, 30 Hz cooled MWIR sensor (640 X 512 thermal resolution) with LRF MSRP: $264,999.00
