The 348-foot superyacht Amadea, built by Lürssen in 2017, is up for sale in a US government auction closing September 10, 2025. The sale is moving forward despite an ongoing ownership dispute tied to Russian oligarch sanctions.

Seized in 2022 by the US Department of Justice’s Task Force KleptoCapture, the Amadea allegedly belongs to sanctioned billionaire Suleiman Kerimov and is valued at more than $300 million. Kerimov, an economist and former Russian politician, was among seven alleged Russian oligarchs the US sanctioned in 2018. Former Rosneft CEO Eduard Khudainatov claims he is the rightful owner, but prosecutors allege he acted as a “straw owner” to conceal Kerimov’s assets.

In March, US district judge Dale Ho of the Southern District of New York ordered the yacht forfeited and told the US Marshals Service to dispose of it. Last month, Ho ruled the government could sell the vessel despite the appeal. A representative of Khudainatov told The Associated Press the planned sale is “improper and premature” given the ongoing court fight.

According to court records, the US has already spent $32 million on transportation, maintenance, and related costs, with ongoing expenses of about $850,000 per month. Officials say their goal is to sell Amadea for fair market value.

Designed by Espen Øino with interiors by Francois Zuretti, Amadea was built with a steel hull, aluminum superstructure, and teak decks. It carries over 4,400 gross tons, cruises at 13 knots, and can reach 20 knots with a range of 8,000 nautical miles.

The yacht’s six decks include eight staterooms for 16 overnight guests, 21 crew cabins for up to 36 crew, and a dedicated owner’s deck with a forward-facing primary suite, private office, hot tub, beauty salon, gym, and sky lounge. Amenities span a 10-meter infinity pool with swim-up bar; a spa with sauna, hammam, and chromotherapy pool; a private cinema with motion seating; two elevators; and a helipad rated for a Eurocopter EC135. The vessel also carries three custom tenders, multiple personal watercraft, dive gear, and a wide selection of water toys.

Bidders must have a verified net worth of at least $500 million and submit a $10 million escrow deposit. The yacht, docked in San Diego, is available for private tours to qualified buyers. It will be sold “as is, where is.”
