Twice the Fun – Pursuit DC 286 Dual Console

Pursuit DC 286

In a convention center filled with many center consoles, seeing the new Pursuit DC 286 Dual Console debut was refreshing. Pursuit, known for building high quality fishing boats, realized that some of their customer base doesn’t need the full outside walkaround capabilities of a center console. The dual console set up provides them with a nice layout and different seating options including a comfortable bow lounge that can host a table.

Don’t get me wrong, the new DC 286 still has plenty of fishability with rocket launchers and optional outriggers off the hardtop, seats that fold to keep the cockpit open, and a convenient 22-gallon lighted recirculating transom live well. The cockpit is lined with 8 rod holders and has a gaff storage in one of the gunnels. Opposite the live well is a 36-gallon insulated fish box with a drain that can be refrigerated as an option. A mezzanine style seat with storage below faces aft which is ideal for watching your lines. To starboard there is a console that can be used for bait prep with a folding seat below or it can be set up with a fridge. The bolstered helm seat has good visibility through the tall fiberglass wrapped windshield and easy access to the standard GPSMAP 1243-XSV MFD, controls, and throttles. In front of the companion seat there is access to a sizeable head compartment complete with an electric head, sink, and storage.

The Pursuit 286 DC powered by twin Yamaha F300 V6 outboards reached a top speed of 55 miles per hour (mph) during manufacturer’s testing. At a cruising RPM of 3,500, she ran at 30.3 mph using 16.5 gallons per hour (1.83 miles per gallon) yielding a rage of 330 miles. With her deep V hull (22° deadrise) she should be able to run out to the fishing grounds even when conditions get tough. The new Pursuit 286 DC is equally adept when used as a day cruiser, or for diving or other water activities (a ski pylon is an option). At 30’ overall, with a 9’6” beam and 2’ draft, this boat delivers a lot in a compact package.
